Leyla Hanım’ın sesinden
hissedilen bir sevgiyle anlattığı
babası Rıza Bey son derece
donanımlı biriydi. Yaşam tarzı,
genel kültürü, geçmişine
olan bağlılığı onu tanıyan
herkesi kendine hayran
bırakıyor; yalnızca kurduğu
ilişkilerle değil, siyasetten
sosyal sorumluluklara
kadar her konuda başarılı
işlere imza atıyordu. 1937
yılında Setbaşı’nda Hathas
müteahhitlik firmasını
kurarak Türkiye’nin ilk
asfalt karayolu olan Bursa-
Mudanya karayolunun asfalt
kaplamasının yapılmasını
sağladı. Muradiye’deki dokuma
baskıları yapan marina
fabrikasının işletmesinde yer
aldı. İsmet Paşa ile yakınlığı ve
Atatürk’e olan derin bağlılığı
Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi’ne
katılarak, partinin yönetiminde
önemli görevler üstlenmesine
vesile oldu. 1945 - 1950
yıllarında dönemin valisi olan
Haşim İşcan’a vekillik yaptı.
Bursa Eski Eserleri Sevenler
Kurumu’nda Kazım Baykal ile
birlikte çalışarak, Süleyman
Çelebi Türbesi’nin inşa
edilmesine katkıda bulundu.
Bursa Avcılar Kulübü’nden
Musiki Cemiyeti’ne, Çocuk
Esirgeme Kurumu’ndan
Kızılay’a kadar birçok kurumda
etkinlikler gerçekleştirdi. Hatta
tarihsel çınarların korunmasına
dair yaptığı çalışmalarla uzun
süre “Çınarların Babası” olarak
anıldı.
Mr. Rıza, an exited crowd and 80
carriages were waiting for them,
with a banner, which is one of the
pieces of the exhibition, stating
“Welcome the Bride from Asia
Minor”. The young lovers got
married in 1930 with a wedding
suited for the Çengizade family,
vowed for eternal love. Three
years after their first born, a
daughter, Selma, they moved
back to Bursa. Mr. Rıza and Ms.
Eşref of the Lakşiç family spent
a love-filled life in the mansion,
the most significant heritage of
the Çengizades and where Leyla
İlova was born. Ms. Eşref, moving
to the mansion in Nalbantoğlu in
1936 with her husband, daughter,
and mother-in-law, had her
second daughter two years later,
on the bed where Ms. Leyla still
sleeps today. This mansion, the
last stop in the life of the romantic
man-about-town until his death
in 1966, is keeping the memories
of a happy life and the soul of a
loving man along with Ms. Eşref
who dedicated her life of 90 years
to her love and her family. Until
her death in 1995, Ms. Eşref, as
written on her tomb stone by her
daughter Leyla, lived as a “good
wife and a good mother”. Raised
by a noble father and lady-like
mother, their children would
evidently lead a life honoring the
Çengizade blood and name. The
first fruit of the undying love, Ms.
Leyla’s sister Selma, married
the son of Bosnian Salih, one of
the founding partners of BOSSA
Textile Company and moved
to Adana after spending her
childhood and youth in Bursa.
Following the birth of their two
daughters, with one year apart,
they started living in Istanbul, and
though briefly moved to Ankara
due to political career of Sinan
Bosna, they lived in İstanbul until
their final days.
The younger daughter of the
family, Leyla İlova, leading a life
honoring her family, has enabled
