Period for the memory of Ataturk

a bust of Ataturk, to which the
water pouring over it gives a
certain beauty. Also the two
storey mansion built in 38 days
in 1929 with the instruction
of Ataturk is in this area. The
mansion, where many historically
important decisions were made
and personal belongings from all
around the world are displayed,
serves as a museum since
1984. The fact that Ataturk spent
his last days here, before his
passing in Dolmabahce Palace,
further increases the value of the
mansion. Among the belongings
in the mansion there are the
painting “Kursunlu Bath and
Women” made in 1930, Iranian
and Hereke carpets, a painting of
the Russian painter Ayvazonski
made in 1875, ceramic vases
brought from various countries,
the brass bedroom suite, and
French chairs made of gazelle
skin. The area also embodies the
Historical Grand Hotel and its
casino built in late 19th century
and having a status of first
degree historical building and
the historical cinema built in the
same period. Being one of the
first cinema buildings in Turkey,
the building also served as a
restaurant in the early years of the
Republic period. In addition, the
Yaver’s Mansion, again from the
Republic period and having the
protected status attract interest
as well as the other historical
buildings. It is known that the
rock fragments and columns
found at varying sizes during
the archaeological excavations
belong to the Byzantium period.
