yaşındayken AFS değişim
programıyla İsveç’e gittim.
Bir yılım orada geçti. Oradaki
eğitmenlerim müziğe olan
yeteneğim ve ilgim nedeniyle
bu işi profesyonel olarak
yapmam gerektiği konusunda
beni destekleyince ben de
artık emin oldum ve kararımı
bu yönde verdim. Türkiye’ye
döndükten sonra İstanbul Bilgi
Üniversitesi’ne başvurdum.
Buradaki öğretmenlerimden
Can Kozlu benim için hayattaki
en değerli isimlerden biriydi.
Türkiye’nin en önemli caz
üstatlarıyla aynı sahneyi
paylaştım. Daha sonra
Amerika’da William Paterson
University’de Fulbright Bursu
ile yüksek lisans yapma fırsatı
buldum. Artık profesyonel müzik
hayatım başlamıştı ve tüm
adımlarımı bu yolda atıyordum.
Başta, benim için çok özel
bir yeri olan Kerem Görsev
olmak üzere 30’a yakın caz
albümünde çaldım. 2010’da ilk
albümüm “Nommo” çıktı. Onu
“Autumn in New York” takip
etti ve son olarak kasım ayında
“Dameronia With Strings”
yayınlandı.

Philly Jo Jones, Art Blakey,
Tony Williams, Roy Haynes
cazın efsaneleri. Yenilerden ise
Tyshawn Sorey, Mark Guillana,
Bill Stewart, Eric Harland ve
Kendrick Scott diyebilirim.
Bursalı müzisyenler de var,
mesela şu an Amerika’da
yaşayan Mehmet Ali Sanlıkol,
Fatih Erkoç ile çalan Onur
Alatan gibi. Aydın Esen de caz
müziği için Türkiye’den çıkmış
son derece önemli bir isim.
Biraz da Bursa’nın
hayatınızdaki yerinden ve
Bursa ile bağlarınızdan
bahsedebilir misiniz?
Bursa ile kolay kolay
kopmayacak bağlarım var. Artık
burada yaşamasam da her
fırsatta buradayım. Her şeyden
önce ailem burada, anılarım,
çocukluğum burada. Özellikle
sık sık Uludağ’a kayak yapmaya
geliyorum. Bu benim için hem
doğduğum, büyüdüğüm kentle
özlem giderme fırsatı hem de
çok sevdiğim bir hobi. Heykel’de
büyüdüm ve orada hala bir

music, I was assured and
so I gave my decision in this
direction. I applied to Istanbul
Bilgi University after returning
to Turkey. Can Kozlu, one of
my teachers there was one of
the most valuable names in my
life. I shared the stage with the
most important jazz masters of
Turkey. Later on I had the chance
to continue my education with a
master’s degree at the William
Paterson University in USA with
a Fulbright Scholarship. My
professional musical career
had started and all the steps I
took were in this direction. In the
beginning, I played in about 30
jazz albums among which were
albums by Kerem Görsev who
has a special importance for me.
In 2010, my first album “Nommo”
was released. “Autumn in New
York” followed it and finally
“Dameronia With Strings” was
released in November.
Is there anyone you take
as idols or role models in
your field? Who are the
musicians you listen to in
general and in Turkey?
Philly Jo Jones, Art Blakey, Tony
Williams, Roy Haynes are the
legends of jazz. Among the
contemporaries, I can count
the names of Tyshawn Sorey,
Mark Guillana, Bill Stewart, Eric
Harland and Kendrick Scott.
There are also musicians from
Bursa, like Onur Alatan who plays
with Mehmet Ali Sanlıkol, Fatih
Erkoç. Aydın Esen is also another
very important name for jazz
from Turkey.
Can you also tell us about
the place that Bursa
holds in your life and your
connections with the city?
I have very strong connections
with Bursa. Even though I do
not live here anymore, I come
back at every opportunity. First
of all, my family lives here and
all my memories, my childhood
are here. I especially come to
Uludağ for skiing. This is both
an opportunity for me to visit the
place I was born in and where I
grew up as well as a hobby that
I enjoy a lot. I grew up at Heykel
and we still have a house there.
I go there every time I come to
Bursa to refresh my memories.
It’s not so easy since I have to
travel a lot due to my job, but I try
to create time for it. I also find the
chance to take stage at Bursa. I
can say that Bursa has a very live
jazz scene which makes me very
happy.
Recently, jazz music has
picked up in Turkey. Bursa
takes its share from this
