Bursa’nın “Caz Tatili”nde,
açılışını son albümünün tek trio
parçası “Look, stop, listen!”
ile yaparak sahne alan Bursalı
sanatçı Ferit Odman’dan Bursa,
caz ve festival izlenimlerini aldık.
Öncelikle müzik hayatına
nasıl başladığınızı anlatır
mısınız?
Müzik aslında herkesin
hayatında olan bir kavram.
Benim farkım daha doğrusu
şansım her zaman kulağıma
hoş gelen güzel müziklerin
çaldığı bir evde büyümüş
olmak. Babamın sıkça dinlediği,
benim caza olan ilgimi başlatan
Cannonball Adderley ve
Thelonious Monk gibi efsane
isimlerin plaklarıyla dolu bir
evde. İlkokuldan itibaren de
hep müzikle iç içe oldum. Okul
bandosundaki zil ve trampet
sesleri ruhumu okşuyordu sanki.
Sürekli hareket halinde olmak
da beni çok mutlu ediyordu.
“Eli kolu rahat durmayan”
bir çocuktum her zaman.
Ailemin de desteğiyle davula
yöneldim ve ders almaya
başladım. Bursa Anadolu
Lisesi’nin müzik grubuna
girdim. Oradaki öğretmenim
Murat Onat’ın büyük emeği
ve desteği oldu üzerimde.
İstanbul’da yarışmalara katıldık,
dereceler aldık. Bu yarışmalara
hazırlanırken müzisyenliğimi
geliştirme fırsatı da buluyordum.
Bir yandan Bursa Anadolu Lisesi
Orkestrası’ndaydım bir yandan
da dışarıda birkaç arkadaşımla
kurduğumuz grupta yer
alıyordum. Doğduğum,
büyüdüğüm şehirde, Bursa’da
başladı her şey. Sanat
yolculuğumun çıkış noktası
Bursa oldu. Müzik sevgimin,
caz tutkumun, müzisyenliğimin
tohumları Bursa’da atıldı ve yine
bu şehirde gelişti.

We talked with Ferit Odman,
the artist from Bursa who took
stage for the opening of the “Jazz
Holiday” of Bursa with the only
trio piece in his latest album,
“Look, stop, listen!” on Bursa,
jazz and the festival in general.
First of all, could you
please tell us how you
started your musical
career?
Music is actually a concept that
is part of everyone’s lives. My
difference, or to put it better,
my luck was that I grew up in a
house where the music I enjoyed
was always being played in the
background. A house full of
records by legendary names
such as Cannonball Adderley
and Thelonious Monk which
my father always listened and
which started my interest in
jazz. I was always dealing with
music since my time in the
primary school. It was as if the
bell and trumpet sounds of the
school band were comforting
my soul. It made me happy to
be continuously on the move. I
was always the kid “who would
never stop”. I leaned towards the
drum set thanks to the support
of family and I started taking
courses. I joined the musical
group of Bursa Anatolian High
School. Murat Onat, my teacher
there worked a lot with me and
provided an immense support.
We participated in competitions
in Istanbul and won awards. I
also found the chance to develop
my musicianship while preparing
for these competitions. In the
mean time, I was also part of
the Bursa Anatolian High School
Orchestra as well as in the band
that we started with a few of my
friends. It all started in Bursa,
the city I was born and raised
in. Bursa was the starting point
of my journey in art. My love of
music, my passion for jazz and
my musicianship all flourished in
Bursa and developed here.
So how did this journey
continue?
After graduation, I went to
Sweden with the AFS exchange
program when I was 17. I
