kökeni Farsça’daki
“kendekari”ye dayanıyor
ve Osmanlı dilinde
“tutma, yakalama,
kavrama” anlamına
geliyor. Osmanlı’da daha
çok “Kalemkari” olarak
anılan bu ahşap sanatının
ustasına ise “Kündekar”
deniyor.

to catch” in Ottoman.
During the Ottoman era,
the handicraft was rather
known as “Kalemkari,”
while the artisan is called
“Kündekar”.

completion. The
minbar at Grand
Mosque of Bursa
hosts one of the
most fascinating
examples of this
handicraft, taking
stars and planets
on the sky down on

Kündekari may lack
its past popularity;
nevertheless, it
continues enchanting
with extant traces.
