Oysa onlar “Gökkuşağı
Savaşçıları”ydı ve dünyayı
giyindikleri, yaşadıkları
gibi renkli bir yer yapmak
istiyorlardı. Amaçları tüm
dünyaya bitmeyen bir
bahar getirmekti. Yaptıkları
savaş karşıtı eylemlerin
tümünün kaynağı sevgiydi.
Bağımlılık yaratan maddelerin
yasallaştırılmasını istiyorlardı
çünkü bu maddelerin
yaratıcılığı artırdığını ve
inandıklarını sanat yoluyla
ifade etmeleri konusunda
insanlara yardımcı olduğuna
inanıyorlardı. Siyaseti,
korkuyu, savaşı, toplumsal
kuralları reddederken; sevgiyi,
barışı, dostluğu, özgürlüğü
ve müziği kabul ediyorlardı.
Boyun eğdikleri tek düzen,
kainatın düzeniydi ve amaçları
doğanın dengesini bozan her
şeyin önünde durmaktı. Hippi
kültürünü detaylarıyla anlatan
“A’dan Z’ye Hippiler” kitabının
yazarı Skip Stone, onların
inandıklarını “Sevgi, kendilerini
ifade edebilmeleri için bireylere
özgürlük vererek ve kendi
görünüşlerini yargılamaksızın
diğerlerini oldukları gibi kabul
etmektir. Bu, Hippi felsefesinin
özüdür.” sözleriyle özetliyordu.

İnsanın ihtiyacı olan her şeyi
doğanın içinde barındırdığını
ancak savaşların ve
anlamsız hırsların doğaya
da, içindekilere de zarar
verdiğini savunan Hippi akımı;
sanatın her dalında kendini
göstererek, her geçen gün
daha fazla insana ulaştı. Rock
ve blues gibi müzik türlerinde
olduğu kadar; sinema, tiyatro,
edebiyat alanlarında da kendini
gösteriyor, modaya olan etkisi
de gittikçe artıyordu. Bugün
bile hala kullanılan “Hippi
that nature had everything
humans needed and that wars
together with meaningless
desires damaged nature and
those inside it expressed itself
through all forms of art reaching
more and more people each day.
The culture manifested itself in
music genres such as rock and
blues as well as cinema, theater
and literature while increasing
its effect on fashion. Even today,
the term “looking like a hippie”
is still being used. They had an
appearance and fashion of their
own. They lived by the “peace
and love” motto while wearing
clothes and accessories that
reflected this ideal of universal
peace. Actually this was a sign
that they had contradicted with
the concepts they were opposed
to. While rejecting capitalism and
all that it brought with it, their
struggle to spread this movement
had made them “popular”
and this popularity resulted in
serving the concepts they were
opposed to. Their reactions
against all that they defended,
believed in and dared to let go
of inspired movies, books and
songs. The movement that had
started as a reaction of a small
group of people against war
and hate became a “fashion”
that encircled all the world. But
actually their flower childness
laid not in their appearance but in
their thoughts, ideals, beliefs and
the unconditional love they had
for all. Hippies were people who
knew how to enjoy anything and
everything in life, who preferred
to make love instead of war while
living in a peaceful world instead
of one filled with wars. All they
wanted was to “let the sunshine
in” as the world famous song
that inspired the “Hair” musical
stated. They were dreaming a
world free of lies, greed, hate and
even money in which all living
things could live with love, peace
and harmony. Their “weird”
and “different” appearance
was actually the result of their
opinions that they hoped people
would one day understand. “68
Generation”, “Flower Children”,
“Rebels”, “Hippies”... They had
many names. Indeed, some even
called them “freaks” meaning
“drug addicts”. They did not
care who called them what or
who thought what about them.
Because what they cared most
about was the rising of the sun
that would save humans from the
shadows over the world. They
embraced the right to live for
women, men, children, animals
and all living things that shared
this world while defending all
