The 1st and 7th Councils dating back to 325 and 787 took place in Iznik. That is why, Iznik is one of the 8 pilgrim spots in our country considered as sacred by Christians… Ayasofya, the most important historical structure of Iznik continues to serve as a museum but it is also used as a mosque. Iznik is also home to important stops for the spiritual life in Bursa such as the Green Tomb adorned with tiles, Hacı Özbek Mosque, Şeyh Kudbettin Mosque and Çandarlı Kara Halil İbrahim Paşa Tomb. “Geruş” Synagogue meaning “banished” in Hebrew is located on Sakarya Street also known as Yahudilik (Judaism) and Arap Şükrü Street. This synagogue is another spiritual stop in Bursa which embraces all religions. Many things have changed on these lands since the conquest of Prusa in 1326 by Orhangazi. Everything has taken on a new perspective from history to architecture, literature to mysticism and even music.
