43 Koku duyumuzun hafızamızla olan ilişkisi ilginç. Bunun sebebi, beynimizde kokuları İşleme koyan bölgenin, hafıza yaratmada önemli işlevi olan hipokampüs ile yan yana olması olabilir. Görme ve işitme duyuları beynin diğer bölgelerine geçmeden önce, aktarma işlevi gören talamusa, yani ara beynin orta bölümüne geçerken, koku duyusunun özelliği doğrudan beynin derinlerine gitmesidir. “Rab Tanrı, Adem’i topraktan yarattı ve burnuna yaşam soluğu üfledi.” Yaratılış kitabı(2:7) Kutsal kitaplardaki yaratılış meselini, belki de en güzel resmeden eserlerden biri, Michelangelo’nun “Adem’in Yaratılışı” freskidir. Bu freskte Tanrı Adem’in eline dokunmak üzere uzanırken, “kendi suretinde” yarattığı Adem’e yaşamı bağışlamaktadır. Bu, freskin ruhsal odak noktasıdır. İki el tam anlamıyla cennet ve dünya arasına yerleştirilmiştir. Birleşmeleri “an” meselesidir. İnanışa göre Adem, dünyada var olmadan önce cennette idi ve yalnızdı. Bu yüzden Tanrı Havva’yı yarattı. Onlara cennet bahçelerinde gezmeleri için izin verdi. Bahçedeki ağaçlardan istedikleri kadar meyve yemelerine de. Sadece bahçenin ortasındaki elma ağacını yasakladı. The relationship between scent and memory is interesting. The reason for this may be related with the fact that the region in our brain that processes scents is side by side with the hippocampus which is important for creating memories. Perhaps, Michelangelo’s “Creation of Adam” fresco is one of the most beautiful works of art that depicts the creation myth in holy books. In this fresco, God reaches out to touch the hand of Adam while giving life to him that He created in His “own image”. This is the spiritual focus point of the fresco. The two hands are placed right in the middle of heaven and earth. It is a matter of moments for them to unite. It is believed that Adam was alone in heaven before the Earth was created. That is why God created Eve. He allowed them to walk around in the Gardens of Eden. And to eat whatever fruit they want from the trees. Save for the apple tree in the middle of the garden which He forbid. But Eve was deceived by the devil symbolized by a snake. And she tasted the apple. And made Adam taste it as well. Apple was the symbol of knowledge and wisdom. Mankind now had knowledge of good and evil. Thus began their travels on earth.
