15 A “deep” lake full of travelers Gezginlerle dolu “derin” bir göl Let a story told countless of times by the locals of Gölyazı tell us of its depths: “Back in the day, there was Apollonia where the lake is located today and Melde (Miletepolis) where today’s Mustafakemalpaşa is located at. The King of Apollonia had a daughter of proverbial beauty. The King of Melde asked for this daughter’s hand in marriage for his son. However, the young princess did not accept it. The Father King built a palace on a hill and hid his daughter there. The enraged King of Melde wanted to wreak havoc on the daughter and father. And he shifted Odysseus’s waters to the lands of Apollonia. The lands of Apollonia was submerged in water, but the city and the palace of the princess remained an island surrounded with walls. This was how the Lake of Apolyont was formed.” Özgür Konur, Gölyazı, 26.11.2017
