Cumhuriyetin ilk yıllarında “Göklere hâkim olmak için” kurulduğunu dile getiren Tayyare Cemiyeti’nin şehre kazandırdığı mekânın projesi; Tayyare Cemiyeti tarafından düzenlenen uluslararası bir mimari proje yarışmasını kazanan ünlü mimar Arif Hikmet Koyunoğlu tarafından yapıldı. Binanın inşaatını ise, açılan ihalede en uygun teklifi veren “Nuri- Sermed-Sisa-Rosu” üstlendi. Böylece Bursa, Türkiye’nin en modern tiyatro binasının sahibi oldu. Açılışı, döneminin en ünlü tiyatro sanatçılarından biri olan Raşit Rıza tarafından yapılan Tayyare Cemiyeti Tiyatrosu, bir süre sonra sinema salonu olarak da hizmet vermeye başladı. Bu durum, Bursa’nın diğer tiyatro ve sinema salonları seyirci kaybetmesine neden oldu. Hatta bu durum basına yansıdı ve Akşam Gazetesi 11 Haziran 1932’de şu haberi yayınladı: “Bursa’da mevcut sinemacılar, yeni yapılan Tayyare Cemiyeti Tiyatrosu’nun bütün şehir ihtiyacını temin edeceğini, binaenaleyh kendi sinemalarının da müşterisiz kalacağını nazari dikkate alarak sinemalarını kapatmaya ve müştereken Tayyare Sineması’nı işletmeye karar vermişlerdir. Tayyare Cemiyeti’ne vaki bu müracaat üzerine cemiyet sinema binasını 6 Bin Lira senevî icarla ve 3 sene müddetle kendilerine ihale etmiştir. Sinema ayrıca senede 10 gece Tayyare Sineması hesabına işleyecektir. Bu suretle müşterisiz kalacağı zannedilen büyük Tayyare Tiyatrosu için mükemmel bir kombinezon bulunmuş demektir.” contest held by the Tayyare Society. Inaugurated by Raşit Rıza, one of the most famous theatre artists of the time, Tayyare Society Theatre also began serving as a movie theatre after a while. This caused the other theatre and cinema parlours of Bursa to lose viewers. This was even covered in the press and Akşam Newspaper had the following news pressed in June 11th 1932: “Existing cinema parlour employees in Bursa said that the newly built Tayyare Society Theatre will be sufficient to meet the entire city’s needs and therefor their parlours will be without patrons have consequently decided to shut down their parlours and operate the Tayyare Theatre in collaboration. Following this appeal, the Tayyare Society has decided to tender the theatre building to them for 6,000 Turkish Liras per annum, for a duration of 3 years. Furthermore, the theatre will work 10 days a year for the Tayyare Theatre. This would mean a perfect combination for the Grand Tayyare Theatre that was estimated to be left without patrons.” “Tayyare” of Bursa… Although the full name was Tayyare Society Theatre, people of Bursa have adopted the name in a short time and began referring to it as Tayyare Cinema since 1933. It was not Bursa’s one and only “Tayyare”. It was customary to meet in front of its doors, watching its theatre plays, movies were the greatest entertainment and an elite activity. Tayyare was under the spotlight during the period of time that old timers recall as “In our times, we would wear a suit to the theatre or the movies…” … As it was described in Sounds of Bursa Magazine, it was among the “very first class” cinema parlours of Turkey… In 1945, the ownership of Tayyare passed on to the Bursa Municipality.
