28 geçmiş zaman kipinde past tense İlk özel Türk okulu: Bursa’nın “Bizim Mektep”i Ülkedeki ilk özel Türk okulu olan “Bizim Mektep” de Bursa’da açıldı. 1918’de Maksem Caddesi’nde açılıp önce Atatürk Caddesi ile Selçuk Hatun Caddesi’nin kesiştiği yere taşınan daha sonra ise Bursalı Şefik Caddesi’nde, fabrikatör Osman Fevzi Efendi’nin köşküne taşınan bu okul, kız ve erkek öğrencilerin bir arada eğitim gördüğü ilk okuldu. Okulun kurucusu Zehra Budunç, Bursa Kız Muallim Mektebi’nde okurken bir nedenle öğretmenlik hakkı elinden alınınca, Halide Edip Adıvar ile Şam’a gidip orada okudu. Cumhuriyet’ten önce ülkesine dönen Zehra Hanım, bir okul açmaya karar verdi ancak bunun için gerekli belgesi yoktu. Bu sebeple okulu Kız Muallim Mektebi’nden iki arkadaşı olan Saide Etil (Çubukçu) ve Leman (Eğilmez) hanımların adına kardeşi Nazike Hanım’la birlikte açtı. Bursa’nın Yunan işgali sürecinde hem Anadolu yararına istihbarat etkinliklerinde bulunan hem de Bursa’da gizli bir haber alma örgütü kurma görevi üstlenen Yüzbaşı Tahir Bey’i okulun bodrumunda saklayan Zehra Hanım, yakalanıp Yunanistan’a sürgün edildi. Böylece Bizim Mektep, Lozan Barış Antlaşması imzalanıp, Zehra Hanım yurda geri dönene kadar kapalı kaldı. Maddi sıkıntılar nedeniyle tamamen Muazzez Ilmiye Çığ, literary critic Orhan Burian received their education here. Two journalists from Bursa, Musa Atas and Rıza Ruşen, taught here. Bursa cartoonist Cemal Nâdir studied in this school and later he worked as both the vice principal and an art teacher at the school. From School to College… Today, the number of private schools with the closure of the private teaching institutions has a considerable place in Bursa. In fact, some of them even went on to be pioneers in many subjects in Bursa’s education history. For example; in one of his speeches at the inauguration of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in 1925 Atatürk said: “private entrepreneurs need to work in order for us to reach the desired level of education”, which triggered the establishment of the Turkish Maarif Society which holds the title of being the first private school in Bursa... The first private school in Bursa was opened as Turkish Maarif Society High School. In 1939, after the law of associations came into existence, the school gained the status of an association, and from 1946 onwards the school received the name of Turkish Education Association (TED) High School for Girls. In 1949, it donated the building to the state for a Girl’s High School to be opened. The school, reopened as Bursa TED College in 2001, continues giving education all over Turkey today Namık Sözeri High School with Şebnem Ferah among its alumni, Private İhsan Çizakça High School founded in 1938 by Bursa Boy’s High School history teacher Nazım Yücelt as “Private Yeni School” which was purchased one year Bizim Mektep, 1924, Zehra Budunç öğrencilerle.
