helped the host with the treats.
The gezek chairman made the
required announcements and
conversation continued from
where it was left off during the
breaks to music. If there is a
predetermined topic and a
guest invited to make a speech,
everyone listens to this speech.
It is customary that the host
starts the second stage during
which solo songs are performed.
The “Procession of Singers”
that starts with the sound of the
host continues with the funny
anecdotes told by the member
assigned for hosting the night
as well as with the poems that
he/she recites. Belly dance
music starts during the third
stage which indicates that
the night is drawing towards
its close. Everyone sings and
dances at the same time. The
gezek gathering that starts with
poems end with the final song
performed collectively. Money
is collected and sometimes this
is used to help a friend in need
or at other times for picnics and
holidays participated by the
members of the gezek and their
families. Because friendship
overflows from the gathering of
brotherhood and conversation
and it never ends. It is all based
on the love of art in the hearts
of generous people. People
brought together by art do not
give up on each other that easily.
The indelible traces of the
gezeks
Many famous names participated
in the Bursa gezeks. Müzeyyen
Senar as well as Zeki Müren.

Udi Musa Kumral, Burhan
Dikencik, Yıldırım Gürses… Many
names who left indelible traces in
Turkish Music took part in these
Bursa gezeks. Today, there are
several gatherings that continue
this tradition. Bursa gezeks are
open to all with a love of culture
and music. They accept guests
from outside and they sometimes
also visit other locations they
are invited to known as “Outer
Gezek”. All efforts are to ensure
that this heritage of culture is
passed down to posterity just
as it managed to reach our day
without being forgotten.
The gezek culture that has had a

Gürses… Türk Müziği’ne yıllar
boyu emek verip silinmeyen
izler bırakan nice isimler yer aldı
Bursa gezeklerinde. Bugün bu
geleneği yaşatan birkaç topluluk
var. Yalnızca Bursa’dan değil,
Bursa dışından olup gönlü
bu şehirde olan, bu kültüre
ve müziğe yüreğinden bağlı
olan birçok kişiye açık Bursa
gezekleri. Hem dışarıdan misafir
kabul ediyorlar hem de “Dış
Gezek” adıyla, davet edildikleri
yerlere gidiyorlar zaman zaman.
Bu kültür mirasının bugüne
dek unutulmadığı, yaşatılmaya
devam ettiği gibi yarınlara da
uzanması için tüm çabalar.
Selçuklulardan bu yana
geleneksel bir önem taşıyan
gezek kültürü, bugün de hem
neşeyi hem derdi paylaşmanın
en güzel yollarından biri.
Kökeninin Orta Asya’daki
Türklere, Şamanlara, Afrika’daki
ve Amerika’daki Kızılderili
kabilelerinin topluca yaptıkları
danslara, söyledikleri şarkılara
dayandığı da söyleniyor gezek
kültürünün. Bir nevi dinsel
ritüel olarak gerçekleştirilen,
müziğin, makamların, bir arada
olmanın, paylaşmanın gücüyle
ruhun kötülüklerden, acılardan,
hüzünlerden arındırıldığına
huzura kavuşulduğuna
inanılıyor. Eski Anadolu
inançlarına bağlanan gezek
kültürünün varlığı da bu yönüyle
“sazlı, sözlü, ikramlı eğlence”
tanımından daha büyük bir
önem kazanıyor.
Cumhuriyet’in ilk yıllarında
yaşanan zorluklar nedeniyle bir
dönem kendini pek göstermese
de kısa zamanda ona sahip
çıkanlar sayesinde yeniden
yaşama döndü gezek kültürü.
Biraz değişti, farklı kimliklerle
harmanlandı, başka ve yeni
anlamlar kazandı ama aslı
bozulmadan günümüze kadar
