Ancient Egypt who knew nine
languages and who stole the
hearts of two Roman emperors
while striving for her ideal to
dominate the entire world much
like Alexander the Great. She
is Mona Lisa; the real name of
whom is Lisa del Giocondo. The
wife of Francesco del Giocondo,
a merchant from Florence, whose
portrait went on to be the most
famous one in the world.
She is Halide Edip Adıvar. A
master orator remembered with
the speeches she gave during
the years of war in Istanbul
to activate the public against
invasion; a hero who worked by
Mustafa Kemal at the fronts of
the War of Independence and
was given a military ranking
despite the fact that she was a
civilian; a newspaper reporter
who played an active role
in the establishment of the
Anatolian Agency; an author
with twenty two novels, four
collections of short stories one
of which is entitled “From Izmir
to Bursa”, two plays as well as
various reviews; an academic
who worked as a professor
of literature and a politician
who was the member of the
Parliament at the Grand National
Assembly of Turkey.
She is one of the millions of
women who cannot be included
in this short article. But first and
foremost, she is the mother: the
name of all those we cannot
name here, those who gave
birth to us after nine months, the
manifestation of the adjective
‘merciful’ and those for whom
heaven lies at their feet due to
their infinite compassion and
unrequited love.
