Bursa’dan dünyaya ulaşan, geçmiş ve gelecek arasında kurulan bir köprü onun tasarımları… Moda dünyasındaki ilklerin altında hep onun imzası var: Arzu Kaprol…

İpeğiyle, kadifesiyle, dünyaca ünlü kumaşlarıyla moda, tasarım ve tekstil merkezlerinden biri olan Bursa’da başladı yolculuğuna… Yolunda emin adımlarla ilerledi ve adını bir markaya dönüştürmeyi başardı. 1995’te aldığı Beymen Academia “Avant-garde Tasarımcı” ödülü ile moda dünyasında adını duyurdu. 1998’de kendi adını taşıyan markasını moda tutkunlarıyla buluşturdu. 2011’de Paris Moda Haftası, Moda Federasyonu resmi takviminde defileler yapmaya başladı ve Paris’te ofisini açtı. 2015’te akıllı giyimin ilk prototiplerinden biri olan, klima değişikliklerine göre fonksiyon değiştiren “Akıllı Ceket”i tasarladı. Aynı yıl Türkiye’nin ilk hologram defilesini gerçekleştirdi. 2016’da tasarım, müzik, dans ve teknolojinin birleştiği “Dijital Senfoni”si ve Türkiye’nin ilk dijital couture show’u ulusal ve uluslararası platformlarda sunuldu.

 Bursa ipeği, Bursa kumaşı, kadifesi sizin için ne ifade ediyor?

Bursa kumaşı benim için Koza Han’da geçen zaman demek… Çocukluğumda büyülü bir han zannettiğim, mutlaka yeni bir kumaş denenen, ipek böceği kozası alıp eve getirilen… Şimdi ise her Bursa ziyaretimde, avluda o eski fincanlardan kahve içtiğim sihirli bir mekân…

Bursa’da size ilham veren, tasarımlarınıza yansıttığınız detaylar nelerdir?

Geleceğe dair tasarımlar yaparken, büyüdüğünüz şekillendiğiniz geçmiş her daim iz bırakır. Benim yaptığım da daha çok, becerikli ve estetik kaygısı oldukça gelişmiş hanımların var olduğu bir ailede büyümek, her zaman onlarla harmanlanan bir teknik ve estetik zevki, geleceğe dair tasarımlara yansıtmak…

Size göre “tasarım” kavramı ve “tasarımcı olmak” nedir?

Benim için tasarım; yaşamımı oluşturan, bu yaşamda kendimi ifade etmeyi seçtiğim ve ilerlediğim yol. Kıyafetler yol arkadaşım… Kıyafetlerden başlayan arkadaşlık, teknolojik tasarımlar ve performanslar olarak yola eşlik ediyor.

Bursa ile bağlarınız ne durumda? Sık sık gelebiliyor musunuz?

Aile büyüklerim hala Bursa’da yaşadığı için bağlarım çok sıcak ancak Bursa’ya gelişlerim maalesef oldukça az.

Bursa’da sizin için özel olan yerlerden bahseder misiniz?

Setbaşı, Gökdere, Tophane, Uludağ ve çocukluğum… Bu şehirdeki en güzel anılarım çocukların okula tek başına yürüyerek gidebildiği, sokakta oynamanın halen mümkün olduğu yıllarda kaldı.

Bu şehirde en çok neleri özlüyorsunuz?

Tekrar yaşanamayacak tek şey geçmiş. Bu yüzden geçmişi ve çocukluğuma dair o naif duyguları özlesem de yaşamımın kendi seçtiğim yolda ilerlemesi de minnet duyduğum bir konu. Doğduğum şehre müteşekkirim ama yaşamımı zenginleştiren başka şehirlere ve anlara da minnettarım. Geçmişi özlemek değil ama içinde bulunduğum anı doyasıya yaşamak, yaşamdaki en büyük farkındalık hayalim.

Bursa’daki tasarım yolculuğunuz nerede ve nasıl başladı?

Namık Sözeri Lisesi 9. sınıfta, okul panosunda açtığım ilk tasarım sergim belki de bu yolun paylaşıma açılmış ilk yolculuğu. Devamında Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi, Paris eğitimi… Pek çok seyahat, pek çok kıymetli defile…

Şebnem Ferah ve Özlem Tekin’in de bulunduğu “Volvox” grubuna nasıl dâhil olmuştunuz?

12 yaşında başlayan okul arkadaşlığımız ve okul orkestrası olarak başlayan bir gençlik hayali benim için müzik. Ama eğer bugün bundan bahsediyorsak, bu Şebnem’in bu kadar tutkuyla müziğe devam etmesindendir. Benim tutkum tasarımdı ve Şebnem devam etmeseydi bugün sadece bir gençlik hatırası olarak kalacaktı. Şebnem’in başarısıdır bu. Benimki tamamen farklı bir alanda başka bir yolda yürümek ama ne mutlu ki bu tutkuyla yaşama ışık olan arkadaşlarım var.

Volvox döneminden unutamadığınız anları bizimle paylaşır mısınız?

Açık Hava Tiyatrosu rock festivali konserleri… Çocuktuk hepimiz ve müziğimizin kendi gençliğimizi başkaldırısı olduğunun farkında olmadan, muazzam keyifli anlar yaşadık. O günlerde yaşamın buna karşı daha toleranslı olduğunu düşünüyorum.

Tasarımcı olma yolunda ilerleyen, izinizden giden, başarılı bir tasarımcı olmayı hayal eden gençlere tavsiyeleriniz nelerdir?

Hayal ettiğin yolda tutkuyla çalışmak ve çok çalışmak.

Şu anda neler yapıyorsunuz?

Moda ve teknolojik giyim alanında tasarım ve performanslar üzerinde çalışıyorum.

“Design is my passion”

Her designs is a bridge between the past and present, which reach the world from Bursa… There’s always her signature in the first of the fashion world: Arzu Kaprol…

She began her journey in Bursa, a world capital for fashion, design and textile with its silk, velvet and world renowned fabrics… She walked her path with confidence and managed to transform her name into a brand. She became widely known in the fashion world after receiving the prestigious Beymen Academia “Avant-garde Designer” award in 1995. She had her fashion shows in Paris Fashion week in 2011 and began having official fashion shows with the Fashion Federation. She designed the “Smart Jacket” which changes functions in response to the climate changes in 2015, which was one of the pioneering prototypes for smart clothing. The same year, she executed Turkey’s first hologram fashion show. In 2016, her “Digital Symphony” which combines design, music, dance and technology and Turkey’s first digital couture show was presented in national and international platforms.

 What do Bursa silk, Bursa fabric and velvet mean to you?

For me, Bursa fabric means time spent in Koza Han… A place that I thought was magical when I was a kid, where there is always a new fabric to try, where you can buy silk worm shells and bring home… Now every time I visit Bursa, it is the enchanted place where I have coffee from the old old cups…

What are the details that inspire you in Bursa, which you reflect in your designs?

When you make designs about the future, the past you grew up with, that shaped you always leaves a mark. What I do is actually growing up in a family with numerous skilled ladies with developed aesthetics, and reflecting a technique and aesthetic taste that shaped up with them to my designs about the future…

What do the concept of “design” and “being a designer” mean to you?

For me design is what comprises my life, the path that I chose and proceeded with to express myself in this life. The clothes are my comrades… The friendship that began with clothes are now accompanied by technological designs and performances.

How are your ties with Bursa? Can you visit often?

My ties are still very warm as the elders of my family are still living in Bursa, however unfortunately I can visit very infrequently.

Can you talk about the places in Bursa that are special for you?

Setbaşı, Gökdere, Tophane, Uludağ and my childhood… My best memories of this city are left in those years where kids could walk to their schools alone, when it was still possible to play in the streets.

What do you miss the most in this city?

The only thing you can’t live again is the past. That’s why although I miss the past and those naïve feelings of my childhood, I also am grateful that my life proceeded in a path that I chose for myself. I am grateful for the city I was born in, but I am also grateful for other cities and moments that enrich my life. My biggest awareness dream is not missing the past but living the present to its fullest.

How and when did your design journey began in Bursa?

I think my first exhibition in this journey was my first design exhibit on the school board in 9^th grade in Namık Sözeri High School. Then came my years in Mimar Sinan University, my education in Paris… Many travels, many precious fashion shows…

How were you included in the group “Volvox” that includes Şebnem Ferah and Özlem Tekin?

For me, music is our school friendship that began when we were 12 and a teenage dream that began in a school orchestra. But if we are talking about today, it is because Şebnem continued to pursue music with such a strong passion. My passion was design and if Şebnem did not continue to pursue it, music would only be a teenage memory for me. This is all her success. Mine was walking a different path in a completely different area but how happy to see that I have friends who illuminate life with this passion.

Could you share some unforgettable moments from your Volvox years?

Rock festival concerts in the Open Air Theater… We were all kids and without realizing that our music was the mutiny of our own youth, we had immensely enjoyable moments. I think life was more tolerant those days towards this.

What would be your advice to the youth who proceed in the path to be a designer, who follow your path and dream about being a successful designer?

Working with passion on the path of your dreams and working hard.

I work on design and performances on fashion and technological wear.
